International Symposium 2021

25–27 August 2021

The preparations for the 26th ICOM General Conference include the International Symposium 2021.

It will present the conference theme "The Power of Museums" divided into four sub-themes:

  • Museums and the civil society
  • Sustainability and the ability to overcome crises
  • Museum leadership
  • Museums and new technologies

We will focus on the process of preparing the new ICOM Museum Definition. The topic of sustainable development, which is one of the important issues of our time, will also be covered.

Each topic will be presented in two papers. One will be presented by a speaker from the Czech Republic and one by an international speaker.

The International Symposium will have a hybrid format and will be accessible to remote participants via the gCON online conference platform. At the same time, the gCON platform and its capabilities will be presented in detail so that each participant knows in advance how to navigate the platform and what they will find in it.

The International Symposium is traditionally followed by an Inspection Tour, during which the Chairpersons of the ICOM International Committees, representatives of the ICOM Executive Board and the ICOM Secretariat will visit and survey the Prague Congress Centre and selected Prague museums, where the main parts of the programme will take place, such as the Opening Party and off-site meetings.

Participation in the symposium is free of charge. Registration is open until 25 July 2021. Please send the registration form HERE to info@icom-czechia.cz

Interpretation into Czech and English will be provided during the International Symposium.
