Experience tradition in a new way: South Bohemian ‘Rustic Baroque’ in UNESCO-listed Holašovice, puppets in Prachatice and a gallery for children in Písek
The unusual and intriguing term ‘Rustic Baroque’ refers to specific folk architectural features that were applied mainly to rural houses during the 19th century. The Rustic Baroque style was unwittingly created by local craftsmen who adjusted typical Baroque decorative features to suit their needs in the countryside, creating very unusual, yet absolutely picturesque designs.
For a chance to admire this unique architecture for yourself, come along with us to the UNESCO-listed Holašovice Historic Village. Afterwards, we will explore another Czech tradition which has been recognized by UNESCO: puppetry! Visit the Museum of Czech Puppets and Circus in Prachatice, and then travel to the Sladovna Písek Gallery where you will learn how this particular Czech tradition can be seen and used in modern times. The gallery’s exhibitions and workshops focused solely on children can inspire us all when it comes to attracting the youngest cohort of museum visitors. After all, the name of the gallery’s main program translates to ‘the Gallery For Children and Their Adults.’
