Pilsen: Not just pilsner; From beer brewing to modern history
When you hear the word ‘Pilsen,’ the first thing that comes to mind is probably beer – namely the pilsner variety which was made for the very first time in this West Bohemian city. Under the name ‘Pilsner Urquell,’ Pilsen’s original beer continues to be sold in countries around the world, and thanks to the quality of local water and hops, it belongs amongst the best lagers on the market!
However, Pilsen is not only about beer. Explore a city where history walked: from medieval monuments like the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew to remnants of a rich Jewish community; through the booming 19th century industrial period to the dramatic time of World War II, when the demarcation line lay right behind the city.
In cooperation with the Museum of West Bohemia, the West Bohemia Gallery in Pilsen and the Brewery Museum Prazdroj, find out more about Pilsen’s history, beer making and – last but not least – about the magnificent collections of the museums on our itinerary.
