Labyrinth of memory: Interpretation and presentation in museology
Located in North Bohemia, a region on the borders of the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland, Liberec had always been a crossroads of cultures and attitudes. Our excursion to the city, located on the doorstep of the Jizera Mountains, will bring us literally to one crossroad, where two amazing institutions are located right opposite each other: the North Bohemian Museum in Liberec and the Liberec Regional Gallery. In a quarter where rich industrialists used to build their villas, surrounded by fresh mountain air and looking towards their factories from above, we could not expect anything less than architectural perfection. The North Bohemian Museum in Liberec will welcome us with a choice of seminars. You may choose either “How to build a museum,” about various approaches to museum architecture, or “When presentation becomes interpretation: Depicting recent history in museums”. For lunch, we will move just across the street to the Liberec Regional Gallery, where the program will continue with either a workshop combining multimedia and arts, or a guided tour and discussion focused on WW2 and stolen artefacts research. To close the day, you will have the opportunity to create your own souvenir/artefact in a gallery workshop.
