Czech Silesia: Three nationalities, one country, one destiny
Located in the northeast of the Czech Republic, the region of Czech Silesia has one of the most complicated histories in the country. Three nationalities have been living here since the Middle Ages – the Czechs, the Poles and the Germans – and their coexistence hasn’t always been smooth. Local borders changed every other decade, and each time, rulers and rules changed, too. 19th-century industrialization and the region’s rich black coal deposits only added to nationalistic conflicts which came to a head every now and then. On the other hand, the pristine beauty of the Beskydy Mountains and colourful local traditions have created a compelling fusion which no visitor can resist.
Take a trip to Czech Silesia and discover more about its natural beauty at the Museum Beskyd Frýdek-Místek, and about its turbulent history at the Těšín Museum. You can enjoy guided tours with exhibition curators and specialists at both museums, taste local specialities and enjoy a folk group performance.
