Traces of Albrecht von Wallenstein in Bohemian Paradise: The fairy-tale town of Jičín and the Museum of Play
Jičín is known as a town of stories. From the dark times of the 30 Years’ War and the great Habsburg generalissimo Albrecht von Wallenstein, to a tale about the first Jewish nobleman, Jakob Baševi, and his adventures at a silver coin forgery, to popular Czech children’s stories about a gallant robber named Rumcajs, countless chronicles await you in this well-preserved historical town.
Jičín is also called ‘the gate to Bohemian Paradise,’ a protected landscape area known for its pristine natural beauty and massive sandstone formations. During our excursion you will have the chance to explore one of these formations, called the Prachov Rocks, as they are in very close proximity to Jičín.
We will start our day at the Regional Museum and Gallery in Jičín with a guided tour and a workshop about educational activities. The museum is located in a former castle built by Albrecht von Wallenstein, and we will explore even more stunning Wallenstein architecture after taking a short walk through the linden tree alley to the Wallenstein Loggia. A light lunch will be served in a local café, and a short ride to the Prachov Rocks for a stroll will follow.
