Live traditions of Moravian Wallachia – The Moravian Tapestry Manufactory and educational programs in the Museum of the Wallachian Region
Moravian Wallachia, another specific region within Czechia, is located right on the border between Czechia and Slovakia. Its rather unconventional name comes from the inhabitants who made their way there during the 16th century from present-day Romania. The so-called Wallachians worked mainly as sheep herders, and brought with them many specific customs and traditions.
Discover more about these traditions at the Museum of the Wallachian Region, where local experts specialize in introducing various playful educational programs to a broad public. Get acquainted with such a program as an example of a useful practise for regional museums, and find out more during an informal guided tour through the museum, located in the centre of Moravian Wallachia, Valašské Meziříčí.
After our museum visit, discover another side of the region’s traditions – the special craft of tapestry and rug weaving. Unfortunately, this art is slowly dying out, but within the Moravian Tapestry Manufactory, unique craftsmanship is kept alive and you can almost feel that time has stopped.
After a late lunch, return to Brno by bus.
