There’s no time to feel blue: Cultural traditions of the Moravian Slovakia region; Blueprint dyeing, folk dance and folk costumes (2-day excursion)

The Czech Republic is extremely rich with cultural traditions, and we are proud to point out that many of them have been added to the UNESCO Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage. To this day, many of these traditions are part of local customs and celebrations – especially in the region known as Moravian Slovakia. Whether you’re talking about Czech blueprint dyeing, folk dance or the ‘king’s ride,’ the richness of the region’s traditions will blow your mind!

In cooperation with the National Institute of Folk Culture, the JA Comenius Museum in Uherský Brod and the Museum of Moravian Slovakia, we are offering a rich program you can experience with all five senses.

Your first day will begin with a pleasant ride through the charming Moravian countryside to Uherský Brod, followed by a visit to the museum of great baroque scholar JA Comenius, a local traditional folk show and refreshments consisting of local specialities. In the afternoon, you will have the chance to explore the Open-Air Museum in Strážnice (the National Institute of Folk Culture), where wonderfully preserved houses display the variability of the vernacular architecture of the Moravian Slovakia region. During the evening, after a buffet dinner served outside, you can get hands-on experience in numerous traditional craft workshops, including a blueprint dyeing workshop, or even learn how to dance with professional folk dancers.

On your second day, we will take you to discover another tradition – one which the locals start their day with – at the Home Distillery Museum, where the fruit brandy ‘slivovice’ is made. Immerse yourself deeper into history and tradition at the Museum of Moravian Slovakia in Uherské Hradiště, where you can visit unique depositories of folk costumes.

After lunch, we will return to Prague by bus.
