Science Capital: Exploring Potentials and Challenges for Science Museums to Foster Equity and Justice
This session focuses on how the roles of science museums need to change for them to become relevant for more diverse audiences, and especially the underserved minorities in diverse contexts around the world. The session unfolds potentials for science museums based on the concept of science capital, which is a tool and framework to explore new possibilities and practices. There will be an introduction to the concept of science capital and different perspectives from around the world will be presented on how science museums can become relevant for citizens who don’t think science museums are something for them. There is a needed transformation for science museums to become active agents within contemporary society for a more equitable, just and socially sustainable world.
