The role of Regional Alliances within ICOM

Regional Alliances are an important level of organization within ICOM. Yet, they are perceived by National Committees and members in general in fairly different terms: in regions with a wider critical mass within museums at a national scale, they are just seen as platforms for communications and, in some occasions (like the museum definition issue, in Kyoto), for jointed positioning. In other regions. They are very much beyond this: they act as truly promoters of all ICOM values and activities. Shared initiatives between regional Alliances are scarce. The meeting aims to evaluate all these themes and maybe to launch common activities.
