In this session four speakers will introduce the theme of ICOFOM’s symposium by discussing aspects of the taboos in museums/museology–those difficult conversations of inequities and conflicts that we often gloss over, leaving them unresolved.

Multilingualism in ICOM: relevance and technical and financial feasibility of its extension

ICOM aims to involve all its members in its purposes. Speaking in a usual language is a condition of equality. Language is the tool of thought: multilingualism within ICOM enriches its debates and its extension will reinforce its central position in the world reflection on museums. The meeting will propose to evaluate the number of members concerned and the new technical and financial conditions of a generalization of the translation in the 3 official languages or even a 4th.
